Our Outdoor Show Celebrates
60 Years in 2010

Put on your walking shoes and head for Howard Amon Park in Richland for the 60th Annual Art in the Park. The Art in the Park show features artists and craftsman offering a unique array of photography, jewelry, metal art, furniture, pottery, paintings, glass art and much more. There will be artists demonstrating, delicious food, good music and shuttle service. The shuttle runs from nearby Fran Rish parking lot and Carmichael Middle school to the park. An additional shuttle runs from the Uptown Plaza to the park. Avoid the heavy traffic at the park and ride for just $1.25 per person or $3.50 per family.

Did you know that the Art in the Park Show is the annual fundraiser for Allied Arts Association? The Allied Arts Gallery at 89 Lee Boulevard also hosts monthly art shows and an excellent gift gallery. The funds from the Art in the Park support the operation of the gallery and, most importantly, the ability of Allied Arts Association to give scholarships to art students.

Stop by Allied Arts Gallery as you begin your stroll through the Sidewalk Show. Look for the mosaic tile walls and the large mosaic paint pot on the front patio. The paint pot has been created into a stylized pin that is for sale in the gallery. Tote bags with the paint pot logo for carrying your Art in the Park treasures are also for sale. A special edition T-Shirt has also been printed for this celebratory 60th year of the Allied Arts Association.

The gallery will be open extended hours during Art in the Park: July 24 9am - 9pm; July 25 9 am - 7pm.

Art in the Park History

In 1947, a group of people started meeting to work and grow as artists and Allied Arts Association was born. The first Art in the Park, known as the Clothesline Show, was held at Richland’s Uptown Shopping Center in 1950. The first craft artisans displayed their work on clothes lines in the parking lot of the shopping center. Art in the Park has come a long way from its humble beginnings. The show, now held in beautiful Howard Amon Park on the Columbia River, has expanded from its original eight artists to more than 300 artisans and thousands of visitors. In 2008 the show's name was changed from the Sidewalk Show to Art in the Park to better reflect the beauty of the riverside park setting.

Located in beautiful Howard Amon Park on the Columbia River in Richland, Washington, we have a reputation of being well-organized and attracting top artists from as many as 46 states and Canada. Our very high national rating for several years was enhanced by being awarded one of the 200 best shows in the nation.

The show is traditionally scheduled for the Friday and Saturday of the same weekend as the Hydroplane Races, usually the last full weekend in July. It is held in Howard Amon Park, along the Columbia River, at the end of Lee Boulevard in Richland.

Art in the Park is the main fund raiser for Allied Arts Association. Proceeds are used for exhibits and other programs at Allied Arts, maintenance of the existing gallery and education wing, art scholarships, awards at juried exhibits at Allied Arts and the county fair, and special projects.

This event is a fundraiser for Allied Arts Association, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that believes a vibrant community deserves a rich variety of visual arts opportunities. From our home at the gallery we provide: appreciation for the arts, changing exhibits, and art education.
