Student Scholarship and Visual Arts Award Show
April 7 – May 1,
Reception and Award Presentations,
Sunday, April 12, at 1 pm
Each year, in keeping with our mission statement, Allied Arts Association awards two scholarships to college art students and gives monetary awards of achievement to graduating seniors from area high schools. Artwork by these talented students will be on display in our newly remodeled Parkside Gallery throughout the month of April. A reception in honor of these students is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2015, at 1:00 pm. The public is invited to attend.
The Master of Fine Arts scholarship is available to a graduate student in studio art in residence at a university in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. This year’s recipient is Hyunju Kim. She is a MFA candidate attending Portland State University and holds Bachelor Degrees from PSU and National Korea Maritime University in South Korea. Hyunju works in various mediums and her inspiration comes from her dreams. She then searches online for similar images and creates paintings which bring the two together. She is also a portrait painter and has exhibited in Oregon, Arizona, Washington and California.
This year’s Columbia Basin College Continuing Student Scholarship recipient is Ciara Careaga. She is currently working on her teaching degree at CBC and hopes to teach art to K-12 students. Ciara works mainly with watercolor, markers and pen/ink. Most of her art is based on animals and nature; she likes to incorporate the habitat and environment of the animals in her work.
The High School Awards are presented to graduating seniors of area High Schools. The awards for 2015 consist of one $250 Best Portfolio award and an additional $250 to be divided at the judges’ discretion. In addition, judges will award honorable mention certificates for one piece from each remaining portfolio. The names of the winners of these awards were not available at press time for this publication.
These awards will be presented at the April 12th reception and the artwork of these talented young people will remain on display until May 1st. We invite you to show your support of these artists by visiting the Parkside Gallery this month and by attending the reception and meeting them at the reception in their honor April 12th. Your continued monetary support of the Gallery allows us to assist developing student artists with these awards. Thank you for your support.
