2009 Leola Condotta Award

Tri-Cities artist Laura Gable (right) received the 2009 Condotta Award for excellence in a 2-dimensional medium in a ceremony at the Allied Arts Gallery in Richland. The award was presented by Leola Condotta (left) during the reception for the February exhibit “A Feast for the Eyes.”

Ms. Gable works in oil, acrylic and watercolor. Her regional landscapes showcase muted hillsides and marshes along meandering rivers. Still life images portray honest expression influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, and her portraits hint at the inner depths of the subjects. Ms. Gable has several works on display in the February exhibit, including those in the photograph below. You can see Laura's website here.

Laura Gable was born in rural Nebraska and received a degree in Art and Accounting from Chadron State College in Nebraska. Her early work in accounting soon gave way to a career in graphic design. Her work expanded to include the role of professional artist and educator. Her studio is located at 2141 Van Giesen, Richland, and will move to 17 N. Auburn, Kennewick, on March 5.

The Condotta Award was established by Leola Condotta in memory of her husband, Denny (1926 – 2004); the couple supported and led civic arts groups in the Tri-Cities. The award goes to an artist who has exhibited in the gallery during the previous year and recognizes originality, mastery of technique and quality of execution and presentation.
